Barraud and Lunds Fusee Library Clock

A single fusee mantel timepiece by Barraud and Lunds of London. In a mahogany case with an engraved silvered dial with roman chapter ring, behind thick bevelled convex glass in a brass bezel with blued steel hands. The movement and dial both signed and numbered 8225. The case is of extremely fine quality richly figures solid mahogany with a barrel domed arch top, sitting on gilt bun feet and has both front and back locks with separate gilt keys.

Barraud and Lunds was the final iteration of one of the best clockmaking firms in 19th century Britain. Founded in 1838 when the clockmaking dynasty of Barrauds was joined by John Richard Lund to form Barrauds and Lund. In 1869 Lunds two sons John Alexander and Arthur Jackson Lund joined the firm it became Barraud and Lunds and is known to have been operating from 14 Bishopsgate street 1870. The company was dissolved in 1902 with the death of John Alexander Lund, dating this clock to within this 32 year period. The company was known for its high quality precision timepieces of which this is an excellent example.
