Desk Clock By Guilmet in the shape of a Mortar Gun
A small desk or mantel clock in the form of a mortar gun. From the industrial series by André Romain Guilmet. Set upon a fine black marble base with gilt bronze edging. The mortar rests in a cradle with rotating axle. The dial is within a glazed ormolu bezel and is of white enamel with blued steel hands. The movement is of 8 day duration and regulated by a platform escapement. The dial is signed by the retailer H.M. Emmanuel, Portsea By Appointment to the Queen.
This clock is a rare surviver with its original gilding, silvering and ‘Gun metal bronze’ finish. This is achieved by silver plating on top of the cast brass and then patterning the silver to the dark colour of the main barrel and cap.
