Art Deco Clock and Garniture with Michel Decoux Sculpture of German Shepherd Dog.

A very Stylish Onyx and Chrome Clock and Garniture is the epitome of Art Deco. This mantel clock, with an unusual pendulum, has an eight day Pendule de Paris movement striking on a bell. The case and flanking vases are made of a striking combination of polished onyx and black marble, with chrome plated hexagonal columns with polished brass based and capitals. The clock movement is housed in a four glass case with bevelled glass sided and doors. The diamond shaped dial has a gilded chapter ring with stylish Arabic numerals around a silver centre with chrome plated hands.

Crowning this clock is the sculptural top depicting a German Shepherd dog cast in bronze and chrome plated, this is by the renowned animal sculptor, Michel Decoux the back of the tail stamped ‘bronze’, His sculptures are collectable in their own rite.

Michel Decoux born in Belgian but worked mainly in Paris, was regarded as an animal sculptor though he occasionally sculpted people. He was best known for making groups of hunting scenes, and specialized in wild animals (elephants, panthers, etc.). Influenced by cubism and part of the art deco movement, he liked to work in bronze. He is listed in Hachet – Dictionnaire illustre des sculpteurs animaliers.
