Mid Century Parcel Gilt and Marble Striking Bracket Clock By Luxor
An Intriguing 20th century take on an early bracket clock design. This extremely high quality clock by Luxor of Switzerland was originally retailed by Asprey. The striking black marble and gilded brass case has an exaggerated carrying handle, above a pierced and engraved dial with Roman chapter, around a renaissance style grotesque design.
The eight day movement with platform escapement strikes on a bell, made audible through a beautifully pierced and engraved sound vent backed in yellow silk.
These clocks were retailed by some of the most highly regarded jewellers of the 20th century including Asprey’s in London and Tiffany’s in New York. Other identical examples have been found signed by Cartier who presumably bought the model from Luxor. This is a flamboyant example of mid 20th century design and craftsmanship at its best.
