A Eureka Four Glass Electric Mantel Clock

£5,395.00

A superb example of a Eureka Clock made c1912.

The electromagnetic movement is regulated by a large, slowly oscillating bi-metallic balance wheel, with the correct battery these clock will run for the duration of the battery life. Housed in a brass four glass case with doors to the front and back, the movement is visible from all sides so the oscillation can be seen. The movement is numbered 8348 and stamped with the patent no 14614/1906 Made in England

The Eureka clock was invented by Timothy Bernard Powers in New York shortly after 1900, and the Patent granted in 1906. It is thought that by the Eureka Clock Company, London made around 10,000 clocks between 1908 and 1914. This short period of production means that this type of clock is a rare survivor.

The large visible balance wheel oscillates through a 270°s (see video) with a smooth mesmeric action that is delight to watch this and its rarity make this clock a favourite with collectors.
