Grand Sonnerie Vienna Regulator

£3,950.00

This fine quality eight day Vienna Regulator with a grande sonnerie three train movement. Having fine blued steel fretwork hands striking on two gongs, with a two part enamel dial with Roman chapter ring.

The very unusual movement is quarter striking marking the previous hour and the 15, 30 and 45 minute marks on a different higher pitched gong. These type of quarter striking Vienna regulators were very rarely made, and only by master clock makers for individual clients. This particular example comes with a convenient strike/silent switch to stop the clock from striking at night or when desired.

The movement is powered by three polished brass weights suspended from engraved pulleys, with an ebonised pendulum rod with a polished brass bob.

This high quality quarter striking regulator was made in Vienna. The case in the traditional baroque revival style, is remarkably restrained for the period. With a handsome ebonised finish that would fit with the high precision movement, dating from the 1850’s and signed Joachim Bohlena.
